Babson Duo Sweeps NABC Division III Player, Coach of the Year Awards

After leading Babson College to its first NCAA Division III men’s basketball championship last Saturday, senior Joey Flannery and Beavers’ coach Stephen Brennan have swept national honors presented by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After leading Babson College to its first NCAA Division III men’s basketball championship last Saturday, senior Joey Flannery and Beavers’ coach Stephen Brennan have swept national honors presented by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Flannery was named the NABC Coaches’ Division III Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and Brennan is the NABC Coaches’ Division III Coach of the Year.
 
Flannery and Brennan will receive their awards at the AT&T NABC Guardians of the Game Awards Show on Sunday, April 2, at the Orpheum Theatre in Phoenix at 6:30 p.m. MST (9:30 p.m. EDT).  The show is held during the annual NABC Convention and the NCAA® Final Four.
 
The four-time player of the year in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), Flannery was a first team All-America selection for the NABC and D3Hoops.com in each of the last three seasons. 
 
The 6-5 guard/forward from Acton, Mass., ranks first in program history in scoring and eighth in Division III, having scored 2,620 career points. He set Babson career marks for made field goals (863) and made free throws (689) with single season marks for points (750) and made field goals (252) this season.  In last week’s title game in Salem, Va., he blocked a potential game-winning shot at the buzzer to secure the national championship.
 
In his 22nd year as Babson’s head coach, Brennan has won more games than any coach in the history of the program.  The Beavers had a school record 31-2 won-lost record this season, raising Brennan’s career record to 370-236.  A nine-time conference coach of the year, Brennan has guided Babson to four straight NCAA tournaments, during which time the Beavers have an incredible 103-18 record for a winning percentage of .851.
