West Beats East in OT at NABC-Reese's Division I All-Star Game

HOUSTON – New Mexico’s Morris Udeze finished with a double-double scoring 15 points to go with a team-high 11 rebounds to earn MVP honors for the West leading his team to a 104-99 overtime win over the East in the Reese’s College All-Star Game at NRG Stadium.

Norfolk State’s Joe Bryant Jr. was named the MVP of the East team as he finished with a game-high 22 points while grabbing six rebounds. It was the first time the Reese’s All-Star Game went to overtime.

Dexter Dennis from Texas A&M had team-high 17 points for the West while Hunter Tyson from Clemson (15), Gabe Kalscheur from Iowa State (14) and Darius McGhee from Liberty (14) were also in double figures for the West. Khei Clark from Virginia had a team-high seven assists for the West.

Justyn Mutts from Virginia Tech had a double-double for the East with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Nate Laskewski from Notre Dame (12), Seth Lundy from Penn State (12) and D’Moi Hodge from Missouri (11) all scored in double figures for the East. Demetre Roberts from Fairleigh Dickinson led the East with five assists.

 

The East used a 14-2 run turning a 19-17 lead with 11:31 left in the first half into a 33-19 advantage with 7:57 left and led 53-40 at the half.

The West trailed 62-46 with 16:28 left before using a 17-2 run cutting the deficit to 64-63 with 12:13 remaining. The West took its first lead of the game 68-67 with 10:17 left, the first of seven lead changes in the second half and overtime.

The East would later respond with a 10-2 spurt taking a 77-72 lead with 7:21 left in the game before the West ran off eight straight taking a 80-77 lead with 6:17 left in regulation.

Colgate’s Tucker Richardson, of the East, hit a trey to tie the game 90-90 with 1:27 left in the second half.

Dexter Dennis had a putback dunk with 10 seconds left giving the West a 93-90 lead before Bryant Jr. hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 3.7 seconds left in regulation to tie the game 93-93.

The West took the lead for good 98-96 on a 3-pointer by Hunter with 2:18 left.

Tobin Anderson of Iona was the head coach of East while Buzz Williams from Texas A&M coached the West.
