NABC Teams of the Week: Feb. 11-17

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The NABC has selected Louisiana State University, St. Edward’s University, Farmingdale State College, Union College and Iowa Lakes Community College as its Teams of the Week for games played Feb. 11-17. This week’s honors mark the final NABC Team of the Week awards for the 2018-19 season. 

 

NCAA Division I – LSU

Head Coach: Will Wade 

LSU earned a pair of SEC victories on the road last week, winning at then-No. 5 Kentucky on Tuesday before outlasting Georgia on Saturday. The Tigers got a tip-in just before the buzzer from Kavell Bigby-Williams to defeat Kentucky 73-71, giving the program its second-ever road win against a top-five AP ranked opponent. LSU then went the entire second half without committing a turnover in an 83-79 win over Georgia. The Tigers are now 21-4 overall and 11-1 in the SEC. 

 

NCAA Division II – St. Edward’s

Head Coach: Andre Cook 

St. Edwards improved its record to 23-2 overall this season after defeating Rogers State and Arkansas Fort Smith by a combined 50 points last week. The Hilltoppers started the week by making 15 three-pointers on Wednesday in an 89-63 win over Rogers State. Then on Saturday, St. Edwards forced 22 turnovers in an 86-65 victory over UA Fort Smith. The two wins improved the Hilltoppers to 12-1 in Heartland Conference play. 

 

NCAA Division III – Farmingdale State

Head Coach: Brendan Twomey 

Farmingdale extended its winning streak to eight-straight games with a pair of Skyline Conference wins last week. On Wednesday, the Rams limited Mount Saint Vincent to just 34.3-percent shooting in an 85-68 victory. Farmingdale followed that performance by snapping Yeshiva’s 17-game home winning streak on Saturday with an 80-78 win. The Rams are 18-7 overall and 16-4 in conference play this season. 

 

NAIA – Union

Head Coach: Kevin Burton 

Union went a perfect 3-0 last week, extending a streak of seven-straight victories that secured the Bulldogs the regular-season Appalachian Athletic Conference title. Union started the week with an 87-74 win over St. Andrews on Tuesday before running past Tennessee Wesleyan 94-54 on Thursday. The Bulldogs then concluded their regular season on Saturday with a convincing 91-62 road win at No. 18 Montreat. Union enters the AAC Tournament with a 23-6 overall record. 

 

NJCAA/Two-Year Colleges – Iowa Lakes

Head Coach: Troy Larson 

Iowa Lakes went 2-0 last week to improve to 18-8 overall and 8-3 in the ICCAC. The Lakers won a thriller on Thursday, outlasting Des Moines Area CC 112-106 in triple overtime. Then on Saturday, Iowa Lakes built a 13-point halftime lead and held off No. 4 Kirkwood CC for an 82-75 road victory.
