NABC Teams of the Week: Nov. 11-17

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Evansville, Wingate University, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Missouri Baptist University and South Georgia State College have been selected as the first NABC Teams of the Week of the 2019-20 season. 

 

NCAA Division I – Evansville

Head Coach: Walter McCarty 

Evansville pulled off one of the biggest upsets in recent college basketball memory last week, winning at No. 1-ranked Kentucky on Tuesday, 79-75. The Purple Aces held UK to just 37-percent shooting on their way to becoming just the 35th unranked team in NCAA history to beat No. 1 on its home floor. Evansville followed the performance two nights later with an 89-71 victory over IU-Kokomo to improve to 3-0 this season. 

 

NCAA Division II – Wingate

Head Coach: Brian Good 

Wingate went 2-0 last week, earning victories over a pair of teams that won their respective conferences and reached the NCAA Tournament last season. The Bulldogs opened the week on Wednesday by scoring 16 points off turnovers in a back-and-forth 80-77 win over Virginia State. Then on Saturday, Wingate connected on 13 three-pointers to run past Emmanuel, 92-78. WU is now 4-0 on the season. 

 

NCAA Division III – Wisconsin-Oshkosh

Head Coach: Matt Lewis 

Defending national champion Wisconsin-Oshkosh is off to another impressive start after beating third-ranked North Central on Tuesday, 76-66. The Titans never trailed in the game and limited North Central to just 6-of-23 shooting from long distance. The victory improved Oshkosh to 2-0 in the new season. 

 

NAIA – Missouri Baptist

Head Coach: Preston Ingram 

Missouri Baptist went 3-0 last week, with all three victories coming away from home. The Spartans got their week started by pulling out an 80-70 overtime victory at Webster. Then at the weekend Lindsey Wilson College Classic, Missouri Baptist beat host Lindsey Wilson 92-85 on Friday before outlasting No. 21 Campbellsville on Saturday, 88-84. The Spartans are 4-1 this season, including a perfect 4-0 away from home. 

 

NJCAA/Two-Year Colleges – South Georgia State

Head Coach: Cory Baldwin 

South Georgia State went 2-0 in last week’s Applebee Classic, defeating Denmark Tech on Friday and Florida State-Jacksonville on Saturday. The Hawks opened the event by holding off a second-half surge from Florida State-Jacksonville for a 64-60 win. The next night, SGSC outscored Denmark Tech by 22 points in the second half after trailing by five at the break in an 88-71 victory. The Hawks are now 5-0 this season.
