KANSAS CITY, Mo. – NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson has released the following statement in memory of South Florida coach Amir Abdur-Rahim, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 43.
“The passing of Amir Abdur-Rahim is an unthinkable tragedy, and the NABC joins in offering our sympathies to his family and the South Florida program. Though at just 43 Amir was still an up-and-comer himself, he had already developed a passion for investing in the next generation of coaches. Amir volunteered last-minute to lead a clinic at this year’s NABC Convention after a scheduled speaker fell through – a fitting example of his heart for serving others and giving back to the game. Amir’s on-court results and rapid ascension in the profession were no doubt impressive, but it will be the lasting impact he left on athletes and colleagues that define his legacy. Our sport and the coaching community will never forget Amir Abdur-Rahim.”
