KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Anthony Grant of the University of Dayton and Shaka Smart of the University of Texas have accepted invitations to join the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Board of Directors.
The appointments are effective immediately.
“Anthony Grant and Shaka Smart are two of college basketball’s most respected voices,” said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. “In addition to their success on the court, they have shown a commitment to addressing the issues that impact our game and the coaching profession. They will be valuable additions to the NABC Board of Directors.”
Entering his fourth season as the Flyers’ head coach, Grant was the consensus national coach of the year last season. He guided Dayton, his alma mater, to a school record 29 wins with just two losses. UD won its third Atlantic 10 regular season championship in the last five years and was unbeaten (18-0) in conference play for the first time. In his 12 seasons as a head coach at VCU, Alabama and Dayton, Grant’s teams have compiled a 257-141 record (.646).
Smart is beginning his sixth season as head coach of the Longhorns and his 12th season as a Division I head coach. Prior to his appointment at Texas in 2015, he guided his Virginia Commonwealth University team to the 2011 NCAA Final Four, winning at least 26 games in each of his six seasons with the Rams. His overall record over 11 seasons is 253-134 (.654).
