Cal State East Bay’s Rooney, Campbell Sweep Top NABC DII Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Cal State East Bay duo of head coach Bryan Rooney and senior guard Tyree Campbell has been voted as the 2026 NABC Division II Coach and Player of the Year, it was announced on Wednesday.

Rooney has led Cal State East Bay to a perfect 33-0 record this season and a spot in the Division II Elite Eight – just one year removed from an 11-17 finish. The Pioneers won both the CCAA regular season and tournament titles, and have outscored opponents by an average of 13.8 points per game. Rooney’s team had seven players earn All-Conference honors this season.

Campbell, meanwhile, was named the CCAA Player of the Year and currently leads the Pioneers in scoring at 14.5 points per game. He’s connected on 52 percent of his overall field goal attempts and 45.7 percent of three point attempts this season, while also averaging 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game. Campbell finished with 20 points and six rebounds in Cal State East Bay’s regional final victory over Point Loma that secured a spot in the Elite Eight.

Rooney and Campbell are the first NABC Division II Coach and Player of the Year recipients in program history.
