KANSAS CITY, Mo. – National Association of Basketball Coaches Executive Director Craig Robinson has released the following statement following approval of the new NCAA constitution.
“The NABC commends the NCAA membership for approving a new constitution and empowering each division to chart a course for its future. This is an important first step, but more work must be done. The NCAA’s new governance structure must allow individual sports to determine what is best for their student-athletes. Accordingly, we believe it is prudent to grant Division I men’s basketball broad legislative and policy autonomy to make decisions based on the sport’s unique opportunities and challenges; no longer should a common-sense policy for men’s basketball be rejected because it doesn’t work for another NCAA sport. The NABC looks forward to collaborating with Division I leaders to develop a structure that will sustain the growth of the sport that generates most of the NCAA’s revenue, thereby benefitting all student-athletes.”
