KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jim Haney, executive director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), released the following statement in response to action taken Wednesday by the NCAA Board of Governors and Division I Board of Directors.

“Since the announcement of the Department of Justice investigation into college and grassroots basketball last fall, we as coaches knew change was coming, and have embraced both the opportunities and challenges that change presents. From the outset, the NABC and our Board of Directors were unified in a commitment to being part of the solution, not part of the problem. We again thank the Commission on College Basketball and the NCAA’s governance bodies for welcoming the insight of a diverse group of coaches, and look forward to collectively moving forward with the best interests of the game in mind.”

“The NABC undertook significant efforts to support the work of the Commission and the NCAA throughout the past year – notably through the formation of the Ad Hoc Committee on Men’s College Basketball, an in-person meeting between the Commission and members of the NABC Board of Directors, NABC inclusion on various Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee working groups, and more than 30 related meetings and conference calls. The perspective of coaches from every level of the sport was sought, heard, valued and ultimately used as the foundation of these efforts.”
